Anyone that knows me knows that I love birds. I became mildly obsessed when I was about 10 years old and here I am now working towards being an avian veterinarian. I also want to work with other species, like dogs especially, but birds have always sort of been my thing.
Mark was explaining this video of a giant flock of starlings to me about a week ago, and then I stumbled upon it a few days later. Murmuration -- a new word in my avian vocabulary. (--Okay they took the video off of youtube so here is a similar one.)
So yesterday we got home after school and I was about to get Bea out of her car seat when I looked up and saw a murmuration right above us - something I can't remember having seen before aside from the youtube video I just watched a week ago. They weren't quite dancing around like they are in the video, but still the sheer numbers were just amazing. Maybe a murmuration has passed overhead before and I just haven't noticed, but I love these little reminders to slow down and appreciate all of the amazing nature right around us.
So cool! I'll have to keep an eye out for murmurations in the future.
